DESCRIPTION

Wheelset development at AC Schnitzer
A few definitions first

Wheel/Complete wheel = Rim including tire Wheelset = 4 wheels xi/xd Wheelsets = special wheelsets for all-wheel drive vehicles (xDrive) Mixed tires = Tires wider on the rear axle than on the front axle All-round tires = Tires the same on the front and rear axle
The wheels play a truly vital and therefore important role: they are the postcard-sized connection between the vehicle and the road. They are largely responsible for the acceleration and propulsion, as well as for the deceleration – i.e., braking – of your vehicle. The wheels therefore play a key role. Anyone who develops and sells wheels bears a great responsibility. We are aware of this responsibility; we have internalized it and implement it in every new development. At AC Schnitzer, we only use high-quality brand-name tires, developed in close cooperation with premium tire manufacturers. On the one hand, the tires must perfectly transfer the engine's power to the road; on the other hand, properties such as braking performance, lateral stability, water drainage in the rain, and straight-line stability are important decision criteria for or against a tire. A set of wide-base tires is always an investment in increased driving safety and dynamics. To maintain driving comfort when using larger wheel dimensions, we at AC Schnitzer have actively opted against run-flat tires and opted for sporty, conventional tires. Conventional tires create less rolling resistance and offer noticeably more comfort. AC Schnitzer specializes in mixed tire configurations, meaning wheel sets where the rear wheels are wider than the front wheels. This makes sense in terms of driving dynamics, as it allows for the transfer of strong drive forces while simultaneously enabling high steering precision. While the wider a tire, the more power you can deliver to the road, the rolling resistance caused by the tire must not be too great. Since this increases with the wider a tire, AC Schnitzer develops balanced wheel dimensions. AC Schnitzer develops special wheel/tire combinations for all-wheel drive vehicles, orienting themselves in these combinations to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. You can recognize these AC Schnitzer wheel sets by the "xi/xd" designation. Only those wheel dimensions are developed and approved for all-wheel drive vehicles that are just as gentle on the transfer case as standard wheel sets. All AC Schnitzer wheel sets are tuned in multi-stage driving tests on the road and on race tracks. The wheels are only released for sale after successful testing. All AC Schnitzer wheel sets are delivered fully assembled and balanced. They are covered by a two-year manufacturer's warranty. The scope of delivery includes mounting materials such as adapters and wheel bolts, as well as the parts certificate (except for wheel sets marked for export).

Philosophy/Design
A generational change for AC Schnitzer wheels. Not only the name, but also the design – both point to the generational change in the AC Schnitzer wheel segment. While the AC1 wheels are designed differently, they follow in the footsteps of their predecessors in one respect: they too are intended to become design classics. With the AC1 wheels, AC Schnitzer has reinterpreted the classic double spoke. The result is a sporty hybrid look. Towards the rim flange, the sophisticated design creates the tips of triangles, which become wider towards the rim center and are replaced by five trapezoids. These lead the eye directly to the only classic element of the AC1 wheel: the pentagonal hub cap with AC Schnitzer lettering. Despite this multitude of stylistic elements, the design appears tidy and masculine thanks to its very straight lines. The interaction of all elements lends the AC1 wheel solidity and grandeur. The finish creates an effective interplay, especially when moving. - Weight-optimized, cast light alloy wheels - Manufactured using a low-pressure casting process with subsequent heat treatment - Open, 5-spoke design in black, which allows a clear view of the brakes - Raised original AC Schnitzer lettering - The rim is protected against corrosion with a high-quality clear coat, which guarantees a long service life - Basic rim of the AC1 rim family

material
Only high-quality aluminum alloys with the AlSi7 or AlSi11 specifications are used. Both materials undergo additional heat treatment during production, resulting in increased strength while simultaneously reducing weight. Material samples taken during the manufacturing process ensure consistent, high-quality material.

production
Steps on the Road to Perfection: A high-quality cast blank is essential for a perfect and long-lasting wheel. AC Schnitzer uses the low-pressure casting process to produce it. The aluminum alloy is pressed into a multi-part casting mold at a pressure of up to 1.2 bar. After cooling to approximately 400 degrees Celsius, the mold is opened, and the cast blank is ready for further processing. This involves machining and a complex painting process. X-ray inspections, leak tests, and the application of various measuring methods throughout the entire production process ensure the consistent, high quality of the wheel.

Surface Black
In this process, the wheel is first primed and then completely painted. A two-layer clear coat is then applied, consisting of a polyester primer and an acrylic clear coat.

Testing procedures/safety
After their design, the first sample rims are manufactured under real production conditions. These must undergo a multitude of tests. Among other things, their strength is tested. The bending test simulates the "rim lifespan." Every AC Schnitzer rim must survive this lifespan unscathed in order to be produced and sold. Vehicle-specific tests, including test installations with clearance measurements and driving tests on public roads and racetracks, follow. Only after these procedures do our rims receive homologation, i.e., approval for use on public roads. Wheels are safety-critical components. Therefore, they are inspected and tested with the utmost care. This begins with initial chemical material tests and concludes with rigorous endurance tests on test machines: - §30 StVZO wheel guidelines - ECE R124 - Bending tests - 90° impact test - Rolling tests
