Wheelset development at AC Schnitzer
A few definitions first

Wheels play a truly crucial and therefore vital role: they are the postcard-sized connection between the vehicle and the road. They are largely responsible for the acceleration, propulsion, and deceleration—that is, braking—of your vehicle. This gives wheels a key function. Anyone who develops and distributes wheels thus bears a great responsibility. We are aware of this responsibility; we have internalized it and implement it in every new development. At AC Schnitzer, we exclusively use high-quality brand-name tires, developed in close collaboration with premium tire manufacturers. On the one hand, the tires must flawlessly transfer the engine's power to the road; on the other hand, characteristics such as braking performance, lateral grip, water displacement in the rain, and straight-line stability are important decision-making criteria for choosing a tire. A set of wheels with wide tires is always an investment in increased driving safety and dynamics. To ensure that driving comfort is maintained when using larger wheel dimensions, we at AC Schnitzer have actively opted against run-flat tires and for sporty, conventional tires. Conventional tires create less rolling resistance and offer noticeably more comfort. All AC Schnitzer wheel sets are tuned in multi-stage driving tests on the road and on racetracks. Only after successful test runs are the wheels released for sale. All AC Schnitzer wheel sets are delivered fully assembled and balanced. They are covered by a two-year manufacturer's warranty. Included in delivery are mounting materials such as adapters and wheel bolts, as well as the parts certificate (except for wheel sets marked for export).

Philosophy/Design
Technically advanced design, combined with a high-quality manufacturing process, characterizes the AC Schnitzer AC4 flow-formed wheel generation, available in sizes 8.5J x 20" and 9.5J x 20" in the color options BiColor Silver/Black and Black. The circumferential undercut reflects the high technical standards of the AC4 flow-formed wheel. This design element is typically only achievable by forging it during the process, as it is located behind the spokes. The undercut of the AC4 flow-formed wheels is particularly visible in the BiColor version, as it reveals the high-quality aluminum with its silver surface.

material
Only high-quality aluminum alloys are used. The material undergoes additional heat treatment during the production process, resulting in increased strength and reduced weight. Material samples taken during the manufacturing process ensure the consistently high quality of the material.

production
The new AC4 flow-formed wheels are lighter than conventionally cast alloy wheels thanks to the manufacturing process, and this is measurable: the 8.5J x 20" wheel weighs just 11 kg, and the 9.5J x 20" wheel also weighs only 11.9 kg. Flow forming is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies in the wheel industry. In this process, after the initial aluminum casting, the raw product is further processed by rolling. This step densifies the metal, guaranteeing greater stability and impact resistance of the wheel. Furthermore, the improved stability allows for even more intricate wheel designs, as the wall thicknesses can be significantly thinner compared to conventionally manufactured wheels.

Surface Black
In this process, the wheel is first primed, then completely painted. A two-layer clear coat is then applied, consisting of a polyester primer and an acrylic clear coat.

Testing procedures / Safety
After their design, the first sample rims are manufactured under real production conditions. These must undergo a multitude of tests. Among other things, their strength is tested. The bending test simulates the "rim lifespan." Every AC Schnitzer rim must survive this lifespan unscathed in order to be produced and sold. Vehicle-specific tests, including test installations with clearance measurements and driving tests on public roads and racetracks, follow. Only after these procedures do our rims receive homologation, i.e., approval for use on public roads. Wheels are safety-critical components. Therefore, they are inspected and tested with the utmost care. This begins with initial chemical material tests and concludes with rigorous endurance tests on test machines: - §30 StVZO wheel guidelines - ECE R124 - Bending tests - 90° impact test - Rolling tests
